Legion to weigh in on key issues

At least four either Senate or House Veterans Affairs' Committee meetings will include verbal testimony from The American Legion in the next few weeks. Invitations to other hearings could come.

Below is a list of pending House and Senate committee hearings scheduled for the next two months. The American Legion will attend all of them, either testifying or submitting written statements for the official record.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 3 to review of the Department of Veterans Affairs Contract Health Care: Project HERO. The American Legion will testify.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 3 to receive the implementation and status update on the Veterans' Benefits Improvement Act. The American Legion will testify.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 4 to examine the budget request for fiscal 2011 and fiscal 2012. The American Legion will testify.

The Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 10 to examine the Department of Veterans Affairs budget for fiscal 2011. The American Legion will testify.

The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 23 to examine proposed defense authorization request for fiscal year 2011 for the future year's defense program.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on Feb. 24 to explore the relationship between medication and veteran suicide.

The House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees will hold a joint hearing on March 2 to hear the legislative presentation from the Disabled American Veterans.

The House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees will hold a joint hearing on March 4 to hear the legislative presentations from several VSOs.

The House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees will hold a joint hearing on March 9 to hear the legislative presentation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on March 10 to examine the structuring the Department of Veterans Affairs of the 21st Century.

The House and Senate Veterans' Affairs Committees will hold a joint hearing on March 18 to hear the legislative presentations from several VSOs.

On March 18, the House Veterans' Affairs Committee will hold the 2010 Claims Summit.
