Legion Family members already have sent around 85,000 emails to Congress in support of the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act. But the fight is far from over.
Through the Grassroots Action Center, members of the American Legion Family have the opportunity to directly contact via email their members of Congress about issues affecting those who served. In 2025 alone, more than 100,000 messages were sent to Congress through the system, while that number has surged to nearly 142,000 in 2026.
And now, with the Take Care of America's Veterans Act (TCAVA) still not having gone to a vote, it is critical to continue those efforts.
The legislation – H.R. 9237 in the House, S. 4744 in the Senate – provides a rare opportunity to deliver 62 bipartisan, bicameral bills The American Legion has previously supported. TCAVA includes priorities such as the Major Richard Star Act, the Love Lives On Act, the VITAL Act, the HONOR Act, the SAVES Act, and 57 others delivering benefits, health care, education, and essential services to combat-injured veterans, surviving spouses, and families.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has stated under oath that they are planning on finalizing upcoming rules on tinnitus and sleep apnea. Once that happens, the veteran community cannot capture that money to pay for new programs.
That’s why it is critical for the Legion Family to continue urging their lawmakers to support TCAVA and capitalize on the organization’s influence when advocating for the nation’s veterans.
