Distinguished speakers to examine the rise of Nazi Germany and the U.S. military response that ended it.

The National World War II Museum in New Orleans is streaming live online “Stemming the Nazi Tide: The End of the Beginning,” an international conference where noted speakers will examine critical developments of 1942 and 1943 that ultimately put a stop to the Third Reich.

The event is the seventh of the museum’s International Conference on World War II series and the second in recognition of the war’s 70th anniversary.  The conference kicks off at 6:15 p.m. today with a keynote address by author Andrew Nagorski, titled “Hitlerland: American Eyewitnesses to the Nazi Rise to Power.” Programs continue Dec. 7 and 8 with a full schedule both days that wraps up Saturday evening with “The Legacy of Legends: Generals Patton and Bradley, A Family Perspective.” The Patton family presentation will be given by Pat Waters, grandson of Gen. George S. Patton, Jr.

The Bradley presentation will be given by Omar Bradley Beukema, grandson of Gen. Omar Bradley.

Also among the presenters will be Maj. Theodore “Dutch” Van Kirk, bombardier of the Enola Gay, which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, on Aug. 6, 1945, bringing an end to World War II.
