Legion launching historic video series

Videos digitized by the Library and Museum Division now available on The American Legion YouTube channel.

American Legion National Headquarters has started a new video series, “From The Archives” that will spotlight historical videos from the archives of the Library and Museum Division. The videos feature Legionnaires at national conventions, supporting youth programs, communicating about who the Legion is, fulfilling the four pillars, and caring for veterans and their families.

The first videos of this new series have been released leading up to The American Legion 107th birthday; as they are added, additional videos can be viewed on the The American Legion National Headquarters YouTube Channel. Videos include:

1947: American Legion Celebrity Night, the 29th American Legion National Convention in New York City, to include an address from Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Jimmy Savo singing “One Meatball,” and the convention parade on Fifth Avenue

1956: Ambassadors at Bat, the Ambassadors American Legion Baseball team that visited El Salvador, Republic of Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Cuba

1958: We Who Serve, a short film of a Legionnaire encouraging a fellow veteran to join The American Legion by showing what the organization has to offer through continued service and programs.

1969: The Golden Mirror, the 50th American Legion National Convention in New Orleans with leadership reflecting on the organization’s first half cenutry.

2000: America’s Veterans, teaches students about veterans, military service and the history and meaning of Veterans Day. The video features an introduction by President George W. Bush, with appearances by Vietnam nurse Diane Carlson Evans, World War II Army bomber pilot Billy J. Holmes, Past National Commander Joe Frank and Medal of Honor recipient Joseph Rodriguez, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
