Three new PNC Perspectives released

Video conversations with Past National Commanders Daniel Ludwig, David Rehbein and Daniel Dellinger add to the list of the national commander video series.

Three new PNC Perspective videos have been released as The American Legion resumes its series of video conversations with past national commanders about their childhood, joining the military and leading the organization.

Daniel A. Ludwig of Minnesota, national commander 1995-96. An ironworker Ludwig worked with said to hime one day at work, “Legion meeting tonight. Be there.” Ludwig, a Navy veteran, showed up and he was elected to the executive board. That was his start to post and department leadership roles before becoming national commander and leading 2.8 million members.

David K. Rehbein of Iowa, national commander 2008-09. Rehbein, an Army veteran, shares about his journey from post chaplain to national commander, highlights of his year as national commander including a visit to the Flight 93 Memorial, his continued service to American Legion programs, and how the friends he and his wife, Ann, have made in the organization have become family.

Daniel M. Dellinger of Virginia, national commander 2013-14. While delivering a wheelbarrow to American Legion Post 180 in Vienna, a World War II veteran asked Dellinger, an Army veteran, if he had $15 on him. He said yes. The World War II veteran replied, “Congratulations, you’re the newest member of The American Legion.”  That was the start of Dellinger’s service to the organization where as national commander he called for the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki following a secret wait list that then led to the creation of Legion town halls for veterans to share about their VA care.
