Field narrows in quest for national title

Twenty-four teams down to eight in NJCAA Division I men's basketball tournament in Kansas.

After 16 games in a three-day span, the final eight teams are set for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I men's basketball tournament in Hutchinson, Kan.

The tournament, run by Lysle Rishel Post 68 of The American Legion, began Monday with a 24-team field consisting of 16 district champions, four at-large selections and four zone qualifiers.

Today's quarterfinals include No. 1 seed San Jacinto-Central vs. No. 8 Northwest Florida State; No. 2 South Plains vs. No. 7 Vincennes; No. 4 Hutchinson vs. No. 5 Odessa; and No. 6 Eastern Florida State vs. No. 14 Motlow State.

Today's winners will meet in the semifinals Friday night, with the third-place and championship games Saturday night. For more information, including live stats, go to www.njcaahutchtourney.com.
