More than 3,600 posts have reached out to veterans in their communities.
The American Legion’s Buddy Check program grew substantially in 2020 as posts reached out to veterans and families in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, as mental health concerns grow and the winter months near, the program is shifting to check on emotional well-being of those who may feel isolated.
Meanwhile, the nation’s largest organization of wartime veterans continued to distribute tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships, National Emergency Fund and Operation Comfort Warriors grants.
Legislative accomplishments to combat veteran suicide, help for the homeless and new posts are all part of the October 2020 Membership Impact Report, which attaches measurable performance to the newly adopted motto of the organization: “The American Legion: Veterans Strengthening America.”
