Legion’s Veterans Employment & Education Commission chairman among the speakers in Colorado.

More than 2,200 student veterans from across the country and beyond will gather Jan. 2-4 at the historic Broadmoor Resort and Convention Center in Colorado Springs to network, partake of numerous breakout sessions and discover opportunities on campus and after graduation.

Inspiring speakers, employers, higher-education professionals, government agencies and veterans service organizations – including The American Legion – will share ideas and make connections at the 17th Student Veterans of America NatCon.

American Legion Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Commission Chairman Jay Bowen is among the speakers at the opening session of the conference. Along with Kevin O’Neil and Andrew Petrie from the Veterans Employment & Education Division in the Legion’s Washington, D.C., office. The American Legion will also have a booth at the event.

American Legion national policy experts will be speaking in panel discussions and breakout sessions, and The American Legion/Columbia University Be the One suicide prevention protocol training will be offered in one session, as well.

The schedule of events includes a service project with The Mission Continues; claims clinics; a Hiring Our Heroes Employer Summit; a variety of breakout sessions on topics ranging from professional development to brain health; morning yoga; a Wear Blue to Remember Remembrance Run; awards presentations; dinners and more.

The American Legion and SVA have been united since the student veterans group was provided free office space at American Legion National Headquarters in Washington, D.C., in 2008. Since then, SVA has grown to more than 1,600 chapters on campuses throughout the country and around the world.
