Winter Olympics: Top-20 finishes for Irwin, Loomis

A roundup of servicemembers’ success in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Two of the servicemembers representing the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympics earned top-20 finishes during the first week of the Games, while others will begin their quest for Olympic success this weekend.

Army Sgt. Ben Loomis finished 17th in the Nordic combined normal hill competition on Wednesday with a time 33:38.4.

Army Staff Sgt. Deedra Irwin was part of the mixed relay biathlon that finished 14th on Sunday. Irwin and teammates Maxime Germain, Campbell Wright and Margie Freed finished in 1:07:43.2.

Irwin finished 34th in Wednesday’s 15km individual biathlon with a time of 44:57.6.

Army Spc. Sean Doherty finished 80th in the 20km individual biathlon on Tuesday with a time of 1:02:16.8.

Coming up

Air Force Staff Sgt. Kelly Curtis will compete in the skeleton on Friday. The first two heats are Feb. 13 with two more heats, including the medal round, on Feb. 14. Curtis will start 15th in Heat 1.

Army Sgt. Frank Del Duca, one of Team USA’s flagbearers for the Opening Ceremony, will open this weekend in two-man bobsled training heats with teammate Joshua Williamson. The training heats begin Feb. 12 and continue through Feb. 14.
