Winter Paralympics: Former West Point cadet falls short in curling bronze medal game

A look at how veterans and others with military ties are faring in the 2026 Winter Paralympics.

Former West Point cadet Steve Emt and teammate Laura Dwyer came up just short of a medal on March 11 in the 2026 Winter Paralympics.

Facing Latvia’s Polina Roskova and Agris Lasmans in the wheelchair curling bronze medal game, Emt and Dwyer forced extra ends before falling 11-10.

Emt and Dwyer led 4-0 after the first end, but the Latvians scored five points in the second and extended the lead to 7-5 before the U.S. duo answered with four points in the sixth end to lead 9-7. Latvia took a 10-9 lead in the seventh end.

In other Paralympics action this week involving veterans and those with military ties:

Marine veteran Travis Dodson had an assist in Team USA’S 13-0 win over Germany in sled hockey on March 9. Army veteran Jen Lee had eight saves in the March 10, 7-1, win over China. The U.S. will face Chechia in the semifinals on March 13.
