Winter Paralympics: U.S. finishes 2nd in total medal count

Veterans add to gold medal count in sled hockey, para Nordic skiing.

Team USA finished second overall in the medal count in the 2026 Winter Paralympics, which concluded Sunday in Milan, Italy. The U.S. finished with 24 medals overall, including 13 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze.

The U.S. sled hockey team closed out the competition with their fifth straight gold medal, capping this year’s tournament with a 6-2 win over Canada. Army veteran Jen Lee earned his fourth gold medal in the process, while Marine veterans Travis Dodson and Josh Misiewicz each earned their third gold medals in the event.

A former teammate, Marine veteran Josh Sweeney, added to his medal case with a gold medal as part of the mixed 4x2.5km para Nordic skiing relay. Sweeney’s win with teammates Oksana Masters, Sydney Peterson and Jake Adicoff (with guide Reid Goble) made him the first U.S. Paralympian to win gold medals in two distinctly different sports. Sweeney was part of Team USA’s 2014 gold medal sled hockey team.
