Jimmie Foster got an up-front look at JPAC's unique missions and the recent developments in the POW/MIA identification process.
Last week, National Commander Jimmie Foster toured the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and was briefed on its operations. He was accompanied by Carlene Ashworth, president of The American Legion Auxiliary, and other Legion officials.
Foster's visit to JPAC headquarters allowed him to get an up-front look at the command's unique mission and observe the latest developments in the POW/MIA identification process.
The American Legion has several resolutions that reflect its support for JPAC's efforts, including one that calls for a new headquarters facility and a second laboratory, and another that supports increased personnel and funding for the command.
Before returning home, Foster and Ashworth also participated in official observances and ceremonies at the USS Arizona Memorial on Pearl Harbor Day, honoring those servicemembers who fought and made the ultimate sacrifice when the Japanese launched their surprise attack on Dec. 7, 1941.
The visit to Hawaii is was part of a Far Eastern tour that Foster and Ashworth began Nov. 23; they also visited South Korea, Taiwan and Guam.
