The Commander-in-Chief's Trophy will be on the line when Army hosts Air Force.

The annual football game between Army and Air Force has been rescheduled to Dec. 19, with the winner likely claiming the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.

The game, originally scheduled for Nov. 7, was postponed “due to upward trends of COVID-19 cases within the United States Air Force Academy and its football program,” according to a West Point press release.

With the reschedule, the Black Knights (7-2) will play three straight weeks in December. Army hosts Navy on Dec. 12 and has accepted a bid to the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, La., on Dec. 26.

The Midshipmen (3-5) lost to Air Force, 40-7, on Oct. 3, but could force a three-way tie among the teams with a win over Army and an Army win over the Falcons, leaving each of the three teams 1-1 in this year’s series. In that case, the trophy would remain in Navy’s possession as the Midshipmen won the series in 2019.

The Falcons (2-2) are aiming for the school’s 21st Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, the most among the three schools. Navy has won the trophy 16 times and Army has won it eight times. The trophy has been shared four times: in 1974, 1976, 1980, and 1993.

Air Force and Navy each have a conference game still scheduled before their matchups with Army. The Falcons are scheduled to face Mountain West Conference foe Utah State in Logan, Utah, on Dec. 3. And the Midshipmen will host Tulsa in an American Athletic Conference matchup on Dec. 5.
