Midshipmen's game with Memphis postponed for now due to COVID-19 cases.
The Nov. 14 Navy football game against Memphis has been postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases at the Naval Academy and the ensuing quarantine of student-athletes – the second straight game the Midshipmen have been forced to cancel. The team not been on the field since Nov. 2 and have not had a regular practice since Oct. 29.
"We are disappointed to have to postpone a second game, however protocols and guidelines are very comprehensive both at the Naval Academy and within the American Athletic Conference," Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk said via press release. "There are a number of medical personnel that have reviewed all the related issues and, in the end, an administrative decision has been made that clearly reflects the safety and welfare of all involved with both institutions."
Memphis and Navy do not share a common open date through the rest of the 2020 season, but the American Athletic Conference will reportedly consider a number of options with regard to the playing of the contest. Navy's football activities are still paused.
Army is still scheduled to play Tulane this weekend, while Air Force has the weekend off.
