Ukraine update, Easter for deployed servicemembers’ families featured today.
1. Russian missiles hit the city of Lviv in western Ukraine on Monday, killing at least six people, Ukrainian officials said, as Moscow’s troops stepped up strikes on infrastructure in preparation for an all-out assault on the east. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, meanwhile, vowed to “fight absolutely to the end” in strategically vital Mariupol, where the last known pocket of resistance in a seven-week siege was holed up in a sprawling steel plant laced with tunnels.
2. For many of them, it’s their first Easter away from their kids. The first time they won’t be home to help them dye the eggs and put the finishing touches on their Easter baskets before they wake up. And American Legion Post 520 in Sunland promised the California Army National Guard’s 746th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion they’d keep an eye on their kids while they were gone. And they honored that promise.
3. North Korea reportedly tested two more missiles on Saturday, a day after the 110th birthday of the regime’s founder, and on Sunday denounced upcoming military drills by the U.S. and South Korea.
4. In the dusty California desert, U.S. Army trainers are already using lessons learned from Russia's war against Ukraine as they prepare soldiers for future fights against a major adversary such as Russia or China.
5. Tech. Sgt. Matthew Byous has felt disregarded by his leaders before, but someone high up was listening when he spoke out on Facebook about suicide prevention. Now he’s part of an effort at Lakenheath RAF to address the issue, and he’s doing so with support from the service’s top enlisted airman.
