Paralympics wrapup: U.S. sled hockey team finishes perfect Games with 4th straight gold

5-0 win over Canada gives Team USA’s sled hockey team five gold medals in eight Paralympics

Team USA’s sled hockey team extended its record gold-medal streak to four, closing out the 2022 Winter Paralympics with a 5-0 win over Canada on March 13.

Army veteran Jen Lee had 16 saves for his third shutout of the 2022 Games, his first as Team USA’s starting goaltender. The Americans outscored their opponents 30-1 en route to a 4-0 record in Beijing, with Lee stopping all 44 shots he faced.

The U.S. reached the gold-medal game with an 11-0 win over China in the semifinals on March 11. Lee had 17 saves in that game while fellow veterans Josh Misiewicz and Joseph Woodke, both Marines, scored goals. Misiewicz scored his third and fourth goals of these Games against China while Woodke notched his first international goal.

Woodke added an assist in the gold-medal win over Canada.

The five goals were the most by a team in a gold-medal game and the 5-0 margin of victory the largest in a gold-medal game. The U.S. has won five of the eight Paralympic sled hockey gold medals.

Other former servicemembers on the American sled hockey team include Marines Ralph DeQuebec and Travis Dodson and retired Army staff sergeant Rico Roman.

Former Navy SEAL Dan Cnossen won his second career Paralympic gold medal as part of the Nordic mixed relay team, the first American gold medal win in the event.

Cnossen, Oksana Masters, Sydney Peterson and Jake Adicoff, guided by Sam Wood, won the 4x2.5K relay in 25 minutes, 59.3 seconds. They finished 26 seconds ahead of the silver medalists from China.

Cnossen previously won gold in the 7.5K sitting biathlon at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang.
