National Commander Jim E. Koutz helped deliver $4,500 worth of gifts to recovering servicemembers at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga.
The American Legion’s Operation Comfort Warriors struck the right note with its donation on Jan. 24, in Augusta, Ga.
The OCW gifts to the Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB) at Fort Gordon included guitars with amps, an electric drum set, electric piano, microphones and other related equipment. The WTB also received sporting goods including adjustable resistance band sets, foam rollers, folding camping chairs, resistance hand exercisers and stability balls.
The $4,500 worth of gifts distributed at Fort Gordon brings the total amount of donations handed out in January to nearly $30,000. "That’s an impressive outpouring of gratitude," said American Legion National Commander Jim E. Koutz.
"I am so proud of The American Legion Family and others who take the time to support recovering warriors with their donations. This generosity illustrates the Legion’s interest in and involvement with today’s servicemen and women. The Legion will continue its unwavering support, providing resources to help them heal and return to their families and civilian life."
Gifts such as the ones donated at Fort Gordon are purchased through donations to the OCW program. Every single dollar that is donated to OCW is used to purchase gifts that assist injured servicemen and women as they recover from injuries and illnesses suffered at home or abroad.
