The American Legion and USAA - two of the nation's largest military-focused organizations - have joined forces to strengthen support to those who served, giving 2.4 million Legionnaires access to USAA's top-rated insurance and financial services.

The agreement positions USAA as the preferred provider of financial services including insurance, banking, investments, brokerage services and financial guidance. Legionnaires who establish USAA membership can extend the benefits to their qualified family members, many of whom make up the nearly 1.4 million members of the Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Joe Robles, USAA president and CEO, said the union between these two organizations and their rich histories of serving military members and their families will facilitate Legionnaires the financial security they need, regardless of what stage of life they are in.

"We are proud to be working with The American Legion to help meet the financial needs of its members," said Robles. "Because USAA is one of the few organizations offering a full range of financial services, we are uniquely positioned to handle the needs of Legion members. By joining forces we improve service to the military community while achieving both our missions."

U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jimmie L. Foster, national commander of The American Legion, notes that USAA has catered to military personnel since 1922 with a proud legacy of serving the military community.

"I am very excited about our affiliation - I can't think of a better team," Foster said. "The American Legion provides our veterans and their families a support network, and now USAA is aboard to provide professional financial services including banking, insurance, investments, retirement and advice. Our new relationship with USAA represents a great opportunity for the entire Legion family. I strongly encourage all Legionnaires and their families to explore and take advantage of the benefits of USAA membership."

Robles said servicemembers, veterans and their families are drawn to USAA because they want to do business with a financial services provider that understands their unique needs, appreciates their service and is committed to doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do. He said USAA's efforts to hire and retain veterans and military spouses allows the organization to know the military and provide better customer service than any other financial services company. "We say, ‘We know what it means to serve,' and we do. One in five USAA employees is a veteran, military spouse or in the Guard or Reserve - and many, many more have an immediate family member who has served," he said. "We understand military benefits and can factor those into helping American Legion members chart their path toward financial security."
