Seventh annual event to feature GIFF fundraiser, first presentation of Audience Choice Award.
The GI Film Festival (GIFF) – the nation’s only military-themed film festival – is gearing up for its seventh annual event May 6-12 in Washington.
More than 40 productions, spanning documentaries, narratives, student films and more, will be screened throughout the week. The screenings will be interspersed with a workshop, a fundraiser, receptions – including one for wounded warriors at which American Legion representatives will distribute Operation Comfort Warriors gifts – and a "Best of Festival Awards" show that will feature the first presentation of an Audience Choice Award.
According to GIFF co-founder/president Brandon Millett, this year’s entries feature "lots of World War II and Vietnam." But also to be screened are the five winning films from the festival’s "Heroes Remembered: Voices of Korean War Veterans" oral history high school education initiative. The GI Film Festival is a 501c(3) nonprofit educational organization dedicated to sharing the military experience in and out of the arena of war. The Legion supports the festival via resolution and presented Millett and co-founder/director Laura Law-Millett with the National Commander’s Public Relations Award at the Washington Conference in 2010.
