Riders chairman: Start thinking about 2026 Legacy Run

Registration for the charity ride, now in its 20th year, will open in May. In a new PSA, Chairman David Heredia urges Legion Riders to take part in the annual event and the importance of the VCF.

In a new PSA, American Legion Riders Chairman David Heredia Jr. urged American Legion Riders to start thinking now about registering for the 2026 Legacy Run, as well as the cause behind the ride.

The cross-country charity ride will finish up in Louisville, Ky., on Aug. 27, just in time for the start of The American Legion National Convention. But there’s something a little more special about the Legacy Run this year.

“This year’s more than a ride. It’s a milestone: the 20th anniversary of the (Legacy Run),” Heredia said. “What began as a promise to care for the children of our fallen has become a movement that raised millions and has changed lives. And in 2026, as we’ll celebrate America’s 250th birthday, this is our moment to show the nation what service-first looks like.”

In the video, Heredia reminds the Riders of the cause behind the Legacy Run: The American Legion’s  Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF). The VCF provides grants to Legionnaires and active-duty military facing financial uncertainty and with minor children in the home, as well as funding the Legion’s veteran service officer training.

“That’s why we ride: to support The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation,” Heredia said. “Providing direct help to veterans and their families facing unexpected challenges and crises, and strengthening our service officers who fight every day to secure the benefits our veterans earn.”

Registration for the Legacy Run will launch in May.

“Ride with us,” Heredia said. “Volunteer at a stop. Sponsor a rider or donate. Because every mile becomes real help for real families.”
