We want to spread the word about the successes American Legion departments experienced with their own rides ahead of the 2026 Legacy Run.
With the 2026 Legacy Run less than two months away, American Legion Riders nationwide have already conducted or have planned their own state Legacy Runs. And in the final weeks leading up to the national ride, we want to share through our media channels those state efforts.
If you are the coordinator of a state Legacy Run, please share the major details of this year’s ride for a future story on the success of the state ride. Please email sbrooks@legion.org with the following information:
· Your state.
· Number of participants in the ride.
· Miles traveled and number of days.
· The amount raised through the ride, along with the fundraising cause your state chose.
· Two or three pictures from the ride.
If possible, we will try to highlight each ride in a separate story on legion.org and then share via social media.
Since 2026 Legacy Run registration opened in May, 204 participants have registered for the five-day ride. This year’s route leaves Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 23 and will travel 1,000 miles through Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa and Indiana before finishing up just outside of Louisville, the site of this year’s American Legion National Convention.
Check out a day-by-day look at the national ride with American Legion Riders National Chairman David Heredia Jr. here. And register for the Legacy Run here.
The Legacy Run raises funds for The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF). Through VCF funding, the Legion’s Temporary Financial Assistance grants feed and house children of military personnel and veterans facing urgent, unexpected hardships. These grants prevent eviction, keep the power on and fulfill basic needs to hold a family together through difficult times.
The VCF also covers training and accreditation costs for American Legion claims experts who provide free representation for veterans and families applying for disability benefits, survivor assistance, GI Bill opportunities and more.
