Quilt commemorating the nation’s 250 years of freedom will be auctioned off on this year’s Legacy Run.
As our nation prepares to celebrate 250 years of freedom, the American Legion Riders are not just honoring history. We are carrying it forward.
For the 2026 American Legion Riders Legacy Run, one extraordinary quilt – handcrafted and generously donated by lifetime American Legion Auxiliary member and former Quilts of Valor Executive Director Ann Rehbein – will be auctioned in support of our mission.
This is not just a quilt. It is a piece of American history you can hold.
The front captures one of the most defining moments in our nation’s story: the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Framed by the American eagle and marked with “250 Years,” it reminds us that freedom was not simply declared – it was earned.
Turn it over, and the story continues.
The reverse side is a vibrant tribute to the America we live in today, woven with symbols of patriotism, unity and enduring pride.
Together, both sides tell the full story of our nation: the promise of freedom and the price that was paid for it.
Ann currently serves as Quilts of Valor’s national treasurer and is a lifetime Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Department Executive Committee member. She previously has donated quilts that have raised thousands of dollars for American Legion charities, including one that brought in $4,000 for the Veterans & Children Foundation during the 2025 National Convention in Tampa
Her generous donation this year transforms this quilt into more than artwork. It becomes a direct investment in our mission.
For 20 years, the Legacy Run has raised millions of dollars to support the children of fallen and disabled veterans, and today that mission continues through the Veterans & Children Foundation, providing critical support to veterans, military families and children when they need it most.
Every bid placed is more than an offer. It is an act of service.
Along with Ann’s quilt, another item up for bid is a baseball cap donated and autographed by Larry the Cable Guy. We are still working through the details on exactly how we conduct the auction and will share those once they are determined.
In this historic year, our Legion Family has an opportunity to do more than remember America’s story. We have an opportunity to help carry it forward.
Place a bid. Be part of the mission. Carry the legacy forward.
For God and Country – Champions of Hope.
David Heredia Jr. is the chief road captain of the 2026 Legacy Run.
