The Legion’s Heroes to Hometowns Golf Classic raised funds for the Legacy Scholarship, improved H2H visibility, and built camaraderie among veterans.

The day was perfect in every way at Andrews Air Force Base on Oct. 7 as 45 amateur golfers, including 10 wounded warriors, enjoyed a 72-degree afternoon under a cobalt-blue Maryland sky during The American Legion’s third annual Heroes to Hometowns (H2H) Golf Classic.

As if playing 18 holes on one of the military’s top-notch courses wasn’t reward enough, the participants and their sponsors raised $20,000 for The American Legion’s Legacy Scholarship Fund, which ensures that children, whose parents died while on active military duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001, receive the opportunity to attend college.

The H2H Golf Classic was created by the Legion’s Small Business Task Force in Washington, D.C., with three goals in mind:

• To raise the profile of the Legion family’s Heroes to Hometowns initiative, which develops local community support networks for wounded, ill and injured servicemembers and their families as they return to civilian life.

• To promote a sense of camaraderie among veterans in business and in government with those who are leaving active duty and may need assistance.

• To raise scholarship funds to benefit the children of U.S. military personnel killed on active duty since 9/11.
