The scholarship awards up to $10,000 to eligible participants of the American Legion Boys State and Auxiliary Girls State programs.
American Legion departments that conducted a 2026 Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State program, and had Samsung American Legion Scholarship applications submitted by participants, must submit their
finalist nominations no later than Aug. 1, for nominees to be considered for the scholarship award.
The Samsung American Legion Scholarship awards:
- 10 national scholars with $10,000
- 10 runners-up with $5,000
- Department finalists with $1,250
The Samsung American Legion Scholarship was established in 1996 through an endowment of $5 million by worldwide electronics leader Samsung to be administered by The American Legion. It was to show appreciation by Samsung to U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War. The scholarship provides higher education assistance to eligible descendants of U.S. wartime veterans who attend American Legion Boys State and Girls State programs.
Since 1996, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship has awarded more than $7.6 million in college scholarships to 2,618 recipients.
