“Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families, friends, and fellow troopers of those involved during this incredibly difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. Ethan Diven, the 1st Cavalry Division acting commanding general.
Names are being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.
The deceased service members will be transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood said in a news release.
Around 1:34 p.m., the Bell County Sheriff’s Office received 911 calls about a helicopter crash, according to Cliff Coleman, the public information officer from the Bell County Sheriff’s Office.
“You could tell it was a violent crash,” he said.
The two pilots were pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m., Coleman said.
No cause was immediately announced. The Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division is investigating.
The crash caused a grass fire and resulted in road closures.
The Army has used the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter for more than 40 years. The crew sits behind each other with the pilot in the rear and the co-pilot gunner in the front position.
