Coast Guard members are due to miss today’s paycheck because of the partial government shutdown impacting the Department of Homeland Security.
American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley issued the following statement Feb. 27, the day when Coast Guard members are due to miss their first paycheck because of the government shutdown:
"United States Coast Guard members — who serve under the Department of Homeland Security — will go without their next paycheck because Congress has not forged an agreement to end the partial government shutdown. While our representatives are not fulfilling their duties, the men and women of the Coast Guard are continuing to protect our shores, keep ports secure, prevent illegal drug activities, and conduct lifesaving search-and-rescue missions — even while facing the prospect of a lost paycheck. The American Legion calls on Congress to end the government shutdown immediately to ensure our Coast Guard personnel and their families don't miss their next well-earned paycheck."
