The American Legion is conducting its second annual DSO symposium to provide representatives with education, resources and tools to help veterans and their families obtain their benefits.
American Legion accredited service officers are encouraged to attend the second annual Department Service Officer (DSO) Symposium in October. The symposium offers advanced training for accredited service officers who assist veterans and their families in navigating the benefits process.
The symposium takes place Oct. 19 to Oct. 24 at the National Conference Center in Leesburg, Va.
It will feature a 300-level course designed to increase participants’ understanding of the full lifecycle of VA disability claims. The event will include expert-led sessions, hands-on exercises, and keynote presentations, with a special focus on the appeals process before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
This symposium equips our service officers with the tools and knowledge they need to better serve veterans. It’s a chance to strengthen our network and ensure that those who advocate for veterans are fully prepared to navigate complex claims and appeals.
The event kicks off with registration at 4 p.m. Oct. 19, followed by a business social meeting from 7 to 10 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to fly into Washington Dulles Airport (IAD). Training concludes at 11 a.m. Oct. 24.
The cost for full attendance, which includes training and three meals daily, is $243 per day or $1,215 overall. A commuter rate of $138 per day is also available. Travel and lodging must be arranged and covered by each attendee’s sponsoring organization.
Service officers interested in attending must register by Oct. 3. To register for the symposium, use this link.
Upon acceptance, participants will receive further information on travel logistics, class schedules and other specifics.
