The high school precision and sporter class shooters will compete in Hillsdale, Mich., July 23-25.

The American Legion’s Junior 3-Position Air Rifle National Championships get underway Thursday in Hillsdale, Mich., on the campus of Hillsdale College. The 15 competitors in the precision class and 15 in the sporter class will compete July 23-24 by shooting a .177 caliber rifle in three positions – prone, standing and kneeling.

The competitors will compete in Hillsdale’s new world class indoor and outdoor shooting range, the Nimrod Complex, located inside the Halter Shooting Sports Education Center. The facility features more than 100 electronic shooting lanes, classrooms, lockers, a viewing area, meeting space and more.

On Friday, July 24, the top eight in both precision and sporter will be named and will advance to the finals on Saturday, July 25, at 9 a.m. Eastern time where each shooter will fire 10 shots in standing position.

A champion from each class will be named. The precision and sporters champions will be invited to The American Legion’s 107th National Convention in Louisville, Ky., in late August to be honored alongside other American Legion youth program champions.
