SAL Eastern Region membership

Sons

The Sons of the Eastern Region.

The Sons of the Eastern Region have been busy working on all phases of the SAL programs, as well as projects within their individual squadrons, counties, districts and detachments,

Detachment visitations were made to Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Vermont and Delaware. During these visits, the dedication of the Sons of The American Legion was witnessed firsthand and still stands very strong.

In Pennsylvania, the SAL members conducted their first leadership/membership class, during which participants learned how to renew, recruit, reinstate and retain members, using all tools available such as email, website, brochures, etc. One young SAL member was recognized by the Department of Pennsylvania for his achievement of raising over $9,400 for homeless veterans. At the end of this visit, we went to the Flight 93 Memorial where we paid our respects.

During the visit to New York, we went to the Fisher House where the detachment presented a donation. The Detachment of New York also has their own radio station, which is a great public relations tool to keep the area listeners informed of what The American Legion family really does for our veterans and their families.

The detachment commander of Maine received the “Unsung Hero” Award from the VA for his work bringing together the entire Maine Legion family to raise funds for homeless veterans.

The Dodge House is a facility for homeless veterans that is supported by the Vermont Sons of The American Legion. During our tour of the facility, we were shown one of the rooms at the Dodge House that is sponsored by the SAL.

While in Delaware for the SAL convention, we were pleased to hear reports from various squadrons as to their activities during the year. One squadron is the third largest with 1,100 members.

At each detachment visit, greetings were extended on behalf of our National Commander Jim Roberts and the 348,000 members of the SAL. It was great to enjoy the hospitality of each detachment while meeting their members and hearing of the good ideas each blue cap member has in holding events for our programs. It was appreciated on the many courtesies extended during each of the visits.

Serving as your national vice commander has been one of honor and pride for me, and having so many memories of our members working so hard for this great organization.

Thank you, for what you do.

Jim Noble (NJ)
