Among Woodstock, N.Y., Squadron 1026’s charitable activities each year is donating and being involved with Mountain Valley Little League.
Post 1026’s Legion Family is involved in the Little League program as well, but for a project in advance of this year’s Little League season, it was the SAL who led the way.
“This year they asked the Legion if it would be possible for one of our members who has construction equipment to help them redo the pitcher’s mound at our local Little League ball field,” said Squadron 1026 Adjutant Lou Mancuso. “Our commander of the Sons, Brandon Schmeidel, happens to be in that business.”
Schmeidel and other squadron members rebuilt the pitcher’s mound and home plate at Rick Volz Field in Woodstock, earning a shoutout from Mountain Valley Little League on the program’s Facebook page.
