Col. Bree Fram, a transgender Space Force member, discusses her 23-year service, forced retirement and more in this week’s episode of the Tango Alpha Lima podcast.
Col. Bree Fram, who has served 23 years in the Space Force and Air Force, has developed requirements for future space capabilities and brought life-saving technologies from the laboratory to the battlefield.
“As a space nerd, the Air Force was the only place to be,” she says. “And when I got a chance to join the Space Force, that seemed like a marriage proposal. Yes! I’m in.”
Fram is currently headed toward retirement due to the prohibition on transgender service that was implemented in 2025. She speaks as a civilian as the special guest on this week’s episode of the Tango Alpha Lima podcast, where she discusses her time in the military, issues related to her transition and more.
“I am heartbroken for our country for the thousands of servicemembers who have served with honor and distinction who are being forced out right now,” she says. “Not just for them but for the thousands of others who have served with us, or for people who may have considered joining but seeing what is happening to us and saying, ‘No, that might happen to me.’”
Fram served as president of SPARTA, a non-profit transgender military advocacy and support organization; was a Congressional Defense Fellow; led the Air Force LGBTQ+ Initiatives Team; and was a member of the State Department’s Speaker Program.
The toll on the servicemember “has been devastating,” Fram says. “It’s been difficult for many people.”
Fram holds degrees in Aerospace and Astronautical Engineering, and National Security
Studies.
“It has been a long and challenging year but I am still so grateful for the opportunities that I have had to serve.”
