The secrets to successfully assisting veterans

David Vardeman talks about guiding nonprofits to their goals, what’s led to his success, achieving financial literacy and more in this week’s episode of the Tango Alpha Lima podcast.

David Vardeman is a successful banker who is a tireless advocate for his fellow veterans while assisting nonprofit organizations to achieve their goals. He took on the role of “military advocate” throughout the Washington, D.C., area by assisting military nonprofits in their mission of meeting the needs of veterans.

A senior vice president for Capital Bank, Vardeman has helped grow the bank from $400 million to $3 billion.

“I hope to give people inspiration so that they can also create their own reality within the company or the business they are starting up,” he says. “If I can do it, anybody can do it.”

Vardeman, a member of Sons of The American Legion Squadron 1 in D.C., is the special guest on this week’s episode of the Tango Alpha Lima podcast, where he talks about his role in helping veterans, guiding nonprofits to success and more.

As a member of The American Legion’s National Small Business Task Force, Vardeman is dedicated to helping nonprofit organizations continue to grow and prosper. His expertise shines through his understanding of the market, strategic planning of day-to-day operations and with smart solutions to sustain the organization’s specific mission.

Vardeman excelled as he learned the value of prioritizing, simplifying and executing.

“Years ago, I was just focused on work, just like any young person coming up,” he recalls. “But as I got older, I have all these different responsibilities and so many people are counting on me. So what I do now is to focus on each task, one at a time.”

Vardeman recently started a class for those preparing to transition from the military. “My goal for financial literacy is to prepare the individual for the transition period,” he says.

Retaining his focus is not only important to him but to his employer, clients, partners and others he serves.

“My entire life is fused together: work, service, family and spiritually,” he says. “All of it is infused every moment to what I am doing. Otherwise, I don’t think I’d be able to execute all the tasks that are being thrown at me on a daily basis.”
