American Legion National Commander Dan K. Wiley issued the following statement March 1:

"The American Legion mourns the loss of three American servicemembers killed during Operation Epic Fury. We extend our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones during this time of profound grief.

“We are also keeping in our prayers the five servicemembers injured in the attack, along with their families as they face the difficult days ahead.

“War carries a heavy cost for those who serve and for the families who stand beside them. American Legion members and posts across the country stand ready to provide support, comfort and assistance to these Gold Star families and the families of the wounded servicemembers — now and in the months and years to come."
