America Gives passes 2.5 million volunteer hours

America250 initiative sought to reach that number by Fourth of July.

In March, America Gives officially surpassed 2.5 million volunteer hours logged nationwide and at mid-month stands at more than 3.3 million. According to an America250 press release, “This achievement would not be possible without the participation of volunteers like you. Thanks to your contributions, you’re helping to show that service is still at the heart of who we are as a nation. Reaching 2.5 million hours of service represents millions of moments of impact, of communities stepping up for one another. No matter where and how Americans serve, these hours reflect a nationwide commitment to service.”

Progress can be logged through the end of the year. Hours devoted to the American Legion Family USA 250 Challenge can be logged and will count toward the America250 total; individuals and organizations have the chance to be chosen as one of 250 groups that can choose a charity for $1 million in donations.

By National Executive Committee resolution, American Legion departments and posts are encouraged to connect with their state and local America250 commissions. An online directory is available to contact these commissions at america250.org/our-partners/state-and-territory-commissions. Share your stories of involvement on Legiontown.
