Legionnaire shares 250 activities to support USA 250 Challenge

The American Legion challenge supports fitness, mental wellness and community service in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

The American Legion USA 250 Challenge kicked off July 3 in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday next year. Between now and July 4, 2026, the challenge encourages Legion Family members to improve their physical and mental health, while fundraising for The American Legion Veterans & Children Foundation.  

Register here for $30 and learn more. Participants will receive a USA 250 Challenge T-shirt (white, red or blue) and proceeds will go to the VCF. 

Mary J. Fisher of American Legion Post 416 in Encinitas, Calif., registered for the USA 250 Challenge which offers three categories — fitness, mental wellness and community service — for participants to engage in 250 miles or hours of one, two or all three activities as an individual or as part of a team. 

Fisher shared on her Facebook page a list of 250 activities to support the USA 250 Challenge. She broke the activities into 16 categories. View and download a PDF of the list

A few examples of categories and activities include:

Mental & Emotional Wellness

  • Meditate for 10 minutes 
  • Write in a journal 
  • Attend a wellness workshop

Physical Health & Activity

  • Try yoga or stretching 
  • Take a fitness class 
  • Take a walk at sunrise

Community & Giving Back

  • Volunteer at a shelter
  • Lead a neighborhood cleanup 
  • Help an elderly neighbor 

Veteran & Military Support

  • Help a veteran with errands 
  • Create care packages for military 
  • Write thank-you notes to veterans
