American Legion national leadership encourages participation in the challenge to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.
American Legion national leadership is leading from the front on celebrating America’s 250th birthday by participating in the Legion’s USA 250 Challenge. And they are encouraging others to join.
Four new public service announcements on The American Legion’s YouTube channel feature National Commander Dan K. Wiley, Sons of The American Legion National Commander Bill Clancy III and Auxiliary National President Pam Ray promoting the USA 250 Challenge and sharing how they are participating.
The PSAs include:
- USA 250 Challenge promotion. This PSA features all three American Legion leaders explaining what the challenge is and how to join. Participants of the USA 250 Challenge can choose one or more of the three categories – physical activity, mental wellness and community service – to complete 250 miles or hours.
- Mental wellness. Wiley shares how mental wellness can be involvement in the Legion’s Be the One suicide prevention mission, or making Buddy Check phone calls or personal visits to check on the needs of veterans.
- Physical exercise. Clancy reminds participants that anything fitness related counts, such as walking your dog, chair yoga, running or pickle ball.
- Community service. Ray gives examples of how to achieve 250 hours of community service through the serving of 250 meals to homeless veterans, sending 250 care packages to deployed troops, or making 250 quilts for veterans.
These PSAs are to be shared with Legion Family and community members to promote the USA 250 Challenge and encourage participation to celebrate America’s 250 birthday on July 4, 2026. Feature the PSAs on social media, in your post or department newsletter and website, and play at Legion-hosted events.
