Post 175 will host a town hall meeting July 6, and a Veterans Benefit Center from July 7-9.

Veterans, servicemembers and their families in the New Orleans area will receive assistance with VA appointment scheduling and benefits claims at the Legion's upcoming Veterans Benefits Center (VBC), hosted at Post 175 in the city's downtown area from July 7-9. A town hall meeting at the post will precede the VBC on July 6 at 7 p.m.

Located about five miles from the Southeastern Lousiana Veterans Health Care System complex, Post 175 will host Legion service officers and other benefits experts to provide assistance to veterans and servicemembers who receive care - or who are interested in receiving care - at the nearby VA facility. At the town hall meeting, veterans and servicemembers will be able to voice their concerns and provide feedback about the level of care they receive at their local VA.

Additionally, the VBC will help attendees with scheduling VA appointments, filling out claims for benefits, GI Bill questions and general enrollment in the VA system.

Pre-registration is not necessary to attend or receive assistance at the VBC. The VBC event will run from noon to 8 p.m. on July 7; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on July 8; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 9. Post 175 is located at2431 Metairie Road in Metairie.

The American Legion first began hosting VBCs a year ago in the wake of the VA scandals that revealed access to care issues and corruption within the Phoenix VA system. In the time since, the VBCs have spread throughout the country, ensuring that veterans receive the care they deserve at their local VA facilities.
