American Legion Post 67’s Veterans Benefits Live will take place Sept. 18-20 in Cary. Similar efforts have provided millions of dollars in benefits to veterans and their families.
An event that already has assisted thousands of veterans and provided millions of dollars in benefits will again take place in the Raleigh, N.C., area later this month.
From Sept. 18-20, American Legion Post 67 in Cary, N.C., is joining forces with other entities to conduct its annual Veterans Benefits Live claims assistance event. Post 67 is teaming with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Wake County (N.C.) Veterans Services and Veterans of Foreign Wars to provide on-the-spot assistance with VA claims and connect veterans and their families with other services and programs.
Staff from both the Veterans Benefits and Veterans Health Administration will be on hand, as will veteran service officers. Veterans and their family members will have the opportunity to:
· File a new claim with the VA.
· Ask questions about VA appeals or benefits to which they may be entitled.
· Ask questions about VA health care.
· Get assistance facilitating and expediting existing claims and appeals.
· Receive information regarding benefit-related VA programs.
Those attending are asked to bring their DD214, both military and civilian health records, service records, dependency civilian licenses and certificates, and any new medical information not on file with VA.
The American Legion Department of North Carolina has organized similar claims assistance efforts since 2015, including events last September, March of 2023 and in March of 2022.
This year’s event will take place at the Herbert C. Young Community Center at 101 Wilkinson Ave. in Cary. The hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 18 and 19, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 20. Attendees can expect possible long wait times. Free snacks, coffee and water will be provided.
