Legion service officers, appeals reps on torrid pace

Seven months through the fiscal year, over $14.8 billion secured for veterans and surviving spouses.

Accredited American Legion service officers and staff appeals representatives are on pace for another record-setting year in VA claims assistance.

As of April 30, 2026, free American Legion representation had resulted in $14,816,664,466 in benefits for veterans and surviving spouses who had filed VA claims or won appeals with free Legion representation.

More than 3,500 American Legion service officers nationwide work more than 750,000 cases at any time, all the time, with increased volume since the 2022 PACT Act that expanded VA eligibility for some 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic contamination while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.

American Legion representatives worked 10,024 appeals in 2025 that resulted in $53.6 million in retroactive awards.

The amount in benefits achieved for veterans and surviving spouses using free American Legion services has nearly doubled over the last five years.
