American Legion posts, districts and departments are encouraged to use the speech for Veterans Day activities.
Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918, and today a holiday to honor all veterans. American Legion posts, districts and departments observe Veterans Day by participating in or hosting parades, luncheons, ceremonies and more.
A guideline Veterans Day speech is available for use during American Legion events honoring all military veterans. Download the 2022 Veterans Day speech.
And share how your post, district or department is honoring Veterans Day by sharing on Legiontown.
Veterans Day also is a time to conduct Buddy Checks. Resolution 18, passed by the NEC during Spring Meetings in May 2019, calls for the twice-annual Buddy Checks to be conducted Legion-wide on the weeks of The American Legion’s birthday and Veterans Day. A kit is available to help guide posts on Buddy Checks. The online resource contains information about Buddy Checks, tips, answers to FAQs and downloadable resources such as a flyer, scripts and more.
