May is Hepatitis Awareness Month; The American Legion is raising awareness about the disease that is a significant health concern for America’s veterans.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month. Hepatitis C (hep C) is a significant health concern for America’s veterans. Our proud men and women have done their part to ensure our safety, it is time we do ours and make sure they know the risks and symptoms of hep C.

During May, The American Legion is launching a social media “Thunderclap” to engage the community and inform veterans about the risks associated with hep C, encouraging testing for hep C antibodies and confirmatory testing if the result is positive. In addition, The American Legion will be asking all veterans to make May 19th, which is National Hepatitis C Testing Day, the day to take action. You can join us and help spread the word by signing up on our Thunderclap page and asking your friends to assist us in spreading the message.

Hep C is curable – which means the hep C virus is not detectable in the blood months after treatment ends. Let’s make May the month that all veterans take control of their health and talk to their doctor about hep C.
