Veterans who have a prescription at an impacted pharmacy, must transfer it to an in-network pharmacy by Dec. 15.
Changes are coming to TRICARE’s network of retail pharmacies.
Beginning Dec. 15, CVS will join the network and Walmart, Sam’s Club, as well as some community pharmacies will leave the TRICARE network. Walgreens will also remain in TRICARE’s retail pharmacy network. These changes will provide nearly 90 percent of beneficiaries with access to a network pharmacy within five miles of their home.
“Beneficiaries will continue to have many convenient and nearby in-network options,” said U.S. Public Health Service Cmdr. Teisha Robertson, a pharmacist with the Defense Health Agency’s Pharmacy Operations Division. “Express Scripts’ partnership with CVS Pharmacy ensures most beneficiaries have a network pharmacy located near their home or work.”
For those who currently have prescriptions at Walmart, Sam’s Club, or a community pharmacy leaving the network, you must transfer your prescriptions by Dec. 15 to avoid having to pay full cost for using an out-of-network pharmacy. If you fill a prescription at one of the impacted pharmacies, you’ll receive a notice from Express Scripts, TRICARE’s pharmacy contractor.
