Legion to host System Worth Saving town hall in Tuscaloosa
American Legion Post 620 in Bronx, N.Y., hosted a System Worth Saving town hall.

Veterans and their families are invited to discuss their VA health-care experiences, which will then be addressed by American Legion staff, VA officials and others.

The American Legion is hosting a System Worth Saving (SWS) town hall June 12 for military veterans who live in and around Tuscaloosa, Ala.

During the town hall, veterans and their family members will be able to share their VA health-care experiences with American Legion officials, VA staff and others.

The town hall, which starts at 6 p.m., will take place in the Belk Activity Center community room at Bowers Park. The address is 2101 Bowers Park Drive, Tuscaloosa, Ala., 35405. The event is free, and no prior registration or RSVP is necessary.

American Legion Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Commission Chairman Autrey James will be participating in the event.

“In the past six months, The American Legion has restarted these vital visits after a pause during the pandemic,” he said. “We’ve held town halls on both coasts, in the Bronx and in Sacramento. Now, we are conducting a visit in the south so we can learn more about what issues and concerns veterans here have. We’ll then work together with VA representatives to improve health care for veterans in and around Tuscaloosa.”

The American Legion launched the System Worth Saving initiative in 2003 as a way to work with VA to improve health care for the nation’s veterans.

Each year, the Legion’s Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation Commission conducts a series of site visits to VA medical facilities and regional offices across the country. While on site, American Legion representatives meet with veterans, their families and VA administrators and employees to discuss issues and solutions at each site. These observations are compiled into a System Worth Saving report that is distributed to VA officials, members of Congress and the public.
