American Legion VA&R staff spent Veterans Day on the Washington Mall, greeting veterans and handing out coloring books, pens and flags to children. A rainy afternoon was the backdrop for an outreach effort to engage veterans of all ages.

"Considering the weather, the turnout was surprisingly large", said VA&R Assistant Director Jacob Gadd, coordinator for this year's event. "We ran out of many items earlier than anticipated. Must be most of the veterans who attended were Army, so they did not mind the cold rain." Also present were Gail Bryan from the Board of Appeals, Antonio Merrick, Board of Appeals, VA&R Director Barry A. Searle, and James Woodson, Field Service Representative. Numerous other volunteers assisted as the weather grew cold and wet.
