Legion volunteers contribute more than 900,000 hours at various veterans facilities. We want to know more about those volunteers.
Around 7,000 American Legion volunteers contribute 900,000 hours each year at VA medical centers, Vet Centers, nursing homes, a Fisher House, community-based outpatient clinics, state veterans homes and other facilities where veterans receive care.
In an effort to promote the dedicated volunteers and the impact they have, The American Legion is requesting stories about the unselfish work being done in communities across America. The type of volunteering does not matter – providing administrative support, escorting or driving patients, serving coffee or food, assisting with the Veterans History Project or contributing in other ways.
To share the story of a volunteer in your post, district or department, go to www.legion.org/legiontown and click on "Share your story." If you have not previously shared a story, take a minute to create an account and then click the "share" link. After doing so, select "volunteering" and enter the story and upload the photo.
Stories will be posted on www.legion.org and Legiontown USA (www.legion.org/legiontown) and considered for publication in Dispatch.
Questions can be emailed to dispatch@legion.org.
