BASALT, Colo. - The Military Sisterhood Initiative (MSI) will celebrate the one year anniversary of its digital relaunch on February 15, 2021. A program of the national Veteran nonprofit, Challenge America, MSI is a one-of-a-kind program that helps women Veterans connect to the one cohort they trust: other women Veterans. MSI is a national peer support network of women veterans, active and retired, who hail from all 50 states and 18 countries, and every era of service dating to the Korean War.

MSI offers women Veterans a safe space to connect with one another, find and share valuable resources, and discover new tools to assist in their transition to civilian life.

One MSI member describes the network, “I think the fact that female Veterans are a sparse population that is quickly growing is the purpose of this site. Many of us have been isolated so long because camaraderie is far and few between female Veterans. We have unique experiences that are not always relatable to our male counterparts, and these networking opportunities are an attempt to bridge that so we hopefully don't feel so alone anymore.”

As the COVID-19 pandemic lingers, MSI is uniquely poised to support women Veterans during this trying time. For many Veterans, the pandemic has triggered a heightened sense of social isolation, which, if left unchecked, can lead to deteriorations in their physical and emotional wellbeing. To help women Veterans cope with this stress, the team behind MSI has added several valuable features and tools to the platform.

Among the features and tools is a collaborative resource library that allows MSI members to add and discover services that promise to enhance their resilience. An engaging Sisterhood Diary offers members the opportunity to share their stories and spark empowering conversations. The newest offering is the MSI Hangout, which offers more than 4,600 MSI members the opportunity to connect for a group chat to discuss the issues that matter to them.

“The Military Sisterhood Initiative is growing at a rapid speed,” says Dallas Blaney, Executive Director of Challenge America. “As we take a moment to reflect on the thousands of new connections made among our MSI members, we invite other women Veterans to join MSI and reconnect with their military sisters.”

MSI is free for its members. To learn more, please visit the program website at militarysisterhoodintiative.org.
