Half Staff I happened to raise my eyes today To the flag pole on the lawn. I thought, oh no, it’s at half staff Another hero gone. Who, why, when did their life end In honor for us all. Are they like those names Engraved in stone, on that black granite wall? I bow my head and say a prayer For someone I never knew. Half staff is all that now remains, Half Staff for the chosen few.

Half Staff

I happened to raise my eyes today
To the flag pole on the lawn.
I thought, oh no, it’s at half staff
Another hero gone.

Who, why, when did their life end
In honor for us all.
Are they like those names
Engraved in stone, on that black granite wall?

I bow my head and say a prayer
For someone I never knew.
Half staff is all that now remains,
Half Staff for the chosen few.
