Q&A about the new Monday Briefing newsletter

Q&A about the new Monday Briefing newsletter

American Legion Online Update (ALOU) subscribers will begin receiving Monday Briefing, a new weekly newsletter, starting Feb. 28. ALOU subscribers will also start receiving the weekly Commander’s Message email, starting Wednesday, March 2.

The new newsletter will contain relevant news, video links, information and more for American Legion Family members and supporters in an easy-to-read format. Online Update, the Commander’s Message and Monday Briefing will give subscribers more timely information than just the current ALOU, which has been distributed weekly for over a decade.

Here are some common questions and answers about the upgraded newsletters.

Question: What drove the decision to create a new newsletter?

Answer: In the modern age of a 24/7 news cycle, the weekly newsletter format had become outdated. By adding additional days, The American Legion is now able to provide more timely news and information for American Legion Family members on programs, initiatives, legislative priorities, and other items of interest to the veteran and military community. Stories that were included in the Thursday ALOU previously can now be shared with subscribers earlier.

Question: I currently subscribe to the Online Update. Do I need to make any changes?

Answer: Current subscribers do not have to make any changes to their current ALOU subscriptions. If you are not already a subscriber, you can opt in by going to this page and choosing which American Legion newsletters you would like to receive. Those subscribing to the Commander’s Message will be automatically upgraded to receive Monday Briefing and ALOU.

Question: I’m not sure I want another newsletter in my inbox. Can I just cancel the Monday Briefing?

Answer: Unfortunately, no. We are using the same email list for each of the three newsletters. If you unsubscribe from one, you will be unsubscribed from all.

Question: When do you expect these newsletters to be delivered?

Answer: In most cases, the newsletters will be distributed before 11 a.m. Eastern time.

Question: Where can I find out more information about newsletters?

Answer: To check your subscriptions and see a list of all American Legion newsletters, go to legion.org/newsletters. For questions about the newsletter content, send an email to magazine@legion.org.
