April Impact Report: crisis response, scholarships and claims support

As the coronavirus pandemic halted ordinary life and shuttered businesses in April during sheltering-at-home orders, The American Legion stepped into the crisis with needed help for health-care providers, first responders, students, veterans and their families.

April 2020 will go down as one of the nation’s most historic months. The American Legion addressed the crisis head-on in local communities while at the same time handling hundreds of VA benefits issues, conducting a virtual resume-writing workshop, delivering grants for groups that assist children and presenting scholarships for 48 students whose chances at an American Legion National Oratorical Contest championship were derailed by the pandemic.

And, as The American Legion was addressing urgent needs and fulfilling responsibilities, five new posts were chartered during the month.
