July Impact: Thousands call on Senate to pass the PACT Act
American Legion members across the country contacted their U.S. senators in late July to demand they stay in Washington and pass the Sgt. 1st Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act.
The call to action, through The American Legion’s Legislative Commission, came after the Senate did not tally enough votes to send a second version of the PACT Act to the president’s desk on July 27. More than 9,000 Legionnaires used the national Grassroots Action Center platform in a 24-hour span to reach their elected officials after the Legion participated in a July 28 press conference calling for passage.
Meanwhile, 98 Boys State senators came to Marymount University and the nation’s capital for the 76th American Legion Boys Nation “week that shapes a lifetime,” Junior Shooting Sports champions were crowned, Child Welfare Foundation grant applications rolled in, and the System Worth Saving program resumed after a pandemic-caused hiatus.
